Plastics Design & Engineering Work

Plastics Design & Engineering Work

Utilizing our broad plastics and manufacturing experience along with our creative design skills we provide award winning plastics designs that are cost effective, moldable and that are tool ready to allow for short development schedules. Below are just a few examples of our plastics design and engineering work.

  • Speedblock 547 547

    SpeedBlocks™ Head Immobilizer

This project was a unique challenge in that we were asked to develop a low cost disposable head restraint system which would allow for full adjustability in head size from a toddler to an adult with a motorcycle helmet.

We were fully responsible for concept design, development and engineering along supporting the tool build and samplings .We also supported Industrial Design work done by outside group.
SpeedBlocks™ received an IDEA Gold Award from Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) in its annual Industrial Design Excellence Awards program. It also won an MDEA – Medical Design Excellence Award – in the Critical-care and Emergency Medicine product category.

  • 005 CPRmask1

    LAERDAL Medical Inflate-A-Shield

This is a inflatable CPR mask with a safety valve to isolate the user from the victim.

We provided concept design, engineering, vendor selection and ran flow simulations on the rigid plastic parts. We also supported Industrial Design work done by an outside group.
The Museum of Modern Art selected the Inflate-A-Shield™ for inclusion in its 2005 exhibition SAFE: Design Takes On Risk.
LAERDAL Medical Inflate-A-Shield received an IDEA Silver Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) in its 2002 annual Industrial Design Excellence Awards program.

  • Gallery Safeguard 502 502

    Safeguard – Maquet

We worked together with the in-house development team a Datascope (Acquired by Maquet) to develop a revolutionary inflation compression medical device.

We also were hired to locate the manufacturing partner as well as supporting several key protocol tests to validate the material selection and manufacturing process.
In addition, we designed and fabricated demonstration models for use by the sales reps as a training tool.

    Netguard Datascope

This portable patient monitoring device was a complicated assembly which required a complete redesign of a key component.

The existing project team consisted of a large design group as well as a international molder. As the team focused on the other components we redesigned the failed component, ran all required simulations, sourced the tooling and validated the samplings.
This was tricky design which required an overmolded and expensive circuit board with both a TPE and rigid thermoplastic. The requirements were exacting tolerances as well as critical seals.
The Netguard Datascope was the winner of the 2008 Medical Design Excellence Award.
